Job Description


JOSA, a Jordanian organization that supports and promote open source technologies, is looking for a passionate and committed individual to join our team as a Community Officer.

The Community Officer is part of the Community Team and is responsible for delivering community engagement and capacity building activities across JOSA’s technology programs. The role currently supports the Networks of Young Tech Enthusiasts and Communities of Practice (CoPs) components funded through the TechWeen project, while remaining embedded within the broader Community Team structure.

The Community Officer focuses on building and sustaining an active, inclusive, and engaged open source technology community in Jordan by engaging youth in learning and collaboration opportunities, coordinating mentors and partners, and ensuring high-quality implementation of community-based and skills development activities that support participants’ technical and professional growth.

As part of JOSA’s approach to continuity, this role is designed to contribute across multiple projects and work streams over time, adapting to evolving program needs while maintaining a consistent focus on community development and engagement within the technology ecosystem.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extremely passionate about JOSA’s values and mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in program coordination, youth engagement, training, or community-based projects
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in management of tech communities, student clubs, tech organizations, organizing events, training activities, community initiatives, or similar.
  • Experience working in the social enterprise, education, or technology sectors is preferred.
  • Membership in JOSA is a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Engagement and Activities

  • Plan and implement activities related to tech community-based and skills development activities in line with project plans and timelines, while ensuring participants’ technical and professional growth.
  • Organize, support and/or lead community engagement activities, including:
    • Encourage and support university students in organizing learning and community-building activities in universities.
    • Manage and develop members’ events and activities, ranging from small gatherings such as meetups and community sessions, to larger events with 150+ participants.
    • Organize, support and/or lead technical bootcamps, hackathons, and other technical competitions and challenges.
    • Maintain the established Communities of Practice active and support in the learning activities and events management.
  • Ensure activities are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
     

Stakeholder and Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with universities across Jordan, mentors, and partner institutions.
  • Support outreach and participant recruitment efforts.
  • Represent and promote JOSA in the project meetings, community spaces and tech events.
  • Coordinate with other team members and supporting departments, including the Program Team, Communications team, Operations team, Technical unit, etc.
     

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track participation and activity progress to ensure the targets are met.
  • Maintain activity records and prepare periodic reports.
  • Support data collection and documentation in coordination with the MEL team.
     

Open Source Community

  • Liaise between JOSA and other like-minded communities, inside and outside Jordan, including student clubs and other related initiatives (like Wikimedia, Creative Commons, OpenStreetMap, etc.).
  • JOSA Members: Administer JOSA membership to guarantee strong and engaged member base. Maintain constant and good communication with members, assist current and prospective members, encourage and monitor members' contributions and volunteering, and develop plans for membership perks/benefits.
  • Promote inclusive participation and gender equality across activities.
  • Ensure safe and respectful environments in line with organizational policies.
     

Reporting

The Community Officer reports administratively to the Head of the Community Team (currently the Executive Director) and programmatically to the relevant Project Manager(s) for project-specific deliverables.
